A New Iteration

Image
This is the first iteration I have done so far that I was happier with the outcome. I feel like I am finally starting to understand the controls and how to work Photoshop. While this image obviously isn't perfect I think I am starting to get more comfortable with the program and the project. I really like the background and the foreground exclusively but I don't think they work very well together. I think the background is a little distracting to the foreground. I am happy that I am getting better at this, though!

Second Iteration of Dali (Progress?)

Image
This is my second attempt at an iteration of Dali. I think it is more "destroyed" in this image, however, I still am not entirely happy with it. I played around with the inverse in this image, but this was before I learned how to cut out the hairs, so Dali's hair still looks like a helmet on his head. This is something I will work on in my next iteration.

Destroy The Icon Iteration 1

Image
This is my first iteration of the Destroy the Icon Project. I used Salvador Dali as my subject and put him into a desert scene with a setting clock-sun in reference to his paintings. I'm not sure if I altered this picture enough to "destroy the icon" because it is taking me a long time to learn Photoshop, but I like how this turned out overall.

Destroy the Icon Image

Image
This is the iconic image I will be using for the Destroy the Icon Project. It is an image of surrealist artist, Salvador Dali. I think there are many directions I can go with this image and would like to reference some of his iconic paintings within my project.

Project 1 Solution (Redo)

Image
Final Solution :)     This is my finished piece for the Fantasy Project #1. Since the last post, I have added in a tile background, and some shadows to cement the images together. I melded the two layers so that the orcas look like they are swimming in the water. I really like the look of the harsh shadows and lighting on the sink - I think they give the overall picture more drama. I also like the way the tile floor contrasts the foreground. Overall, I am really proud of how this piece came out and how I came along with Adobe Illustrator since my first solution to the project. Original Solution :(

Process #3 (Redo)

Image
Next, I tackled the issue of what I actually wanted to be swimming in the ocean inside the sink. Without something swimming in the ocean, I felt that the image would be too sink-like. I have had a special place in my heart for Orca whales since I watched the tear-jerking documentary, "Blackfish", about whales that live/perform in Seaworld. For me, the sink represented the small performing pools that these huge mammals spend their entire lives in. I Image-traced the picture of the older and younger Orcas and deleted a lot of the unnecessary negative space around them. I would have liked to include the lines that show the Orcas cutting through the water, but I was unable to find a way to include it in the finished product of my piece (I'm still pretty new to Adobe Illustrator).

Process #2 (Redo)

Image
The first image is the photo of an ocean I found on the internet. The second is after the image was image-traced, the opacity lowered to about 75% and the image was cut down to the shape/size of the sink where I wanted to place the ocean.

Fantasy Project Redo

Image
I decided to start my Fantasy Project over again. I am still sticking with my original idea of the sink image, but I am changing from the idea of waterfalls coming from the faucets to an aquarium image inside the sink. I chose a new sink, this time from a bird's eye view angle, and did the outline and some darker values. The lines are slightly shaky, but I plan on fixing those as I work on this piece.

Fantasy Project Progress 2

Image
This is my second progress picture for this piece. I had a lot of trouble working with Illustrator on this project,  but this is the concept I am going for. I am trying to marry the ideas of sinks as mountains and the water coming from the faucet as waterfalls, but I don't feel that it is really coming across how I initially imagined it. I will continue to work on it and resubmit it when I am happier with it. I would really appreciate some critique/suggestions on how to marry the concepts better, because I can see it in my head but cannot bring it to fruition like I hoped.
